Notes & Sources

  1. National public holidays are established by national law (Legge 27 maggio 1949, n. 260, with Republic Day on 2 June restored by Legge 336/2000) and apply across the whole country: normattiva.it. Individual towns also observe their own patron-saint day, which is not included here.
  2. Italy applies no substitute day when a holiday falls on a weekend: Liberation Day (Sat 25 Apr), the Assumption (Sat 15 Aug), All Saints' Day (Sun 01 Nov) and Saint Stephen's Day (Sat 26 Dec) are not made up in 2026.
